President Obama's Promises

I was surfing the internet and found this website
http://www.allamericanblogger.com/president-obamas-promises/
In this blog it keeps track of all promises Obama made while campaigning and when they are kept or broken. Yes it does provide citation.

Economics and you

The current economic situation should not come as a surprise to anyone. The global GDP has risen over 4.5% per year over the past four years and it is impossible to keep up at that rate of growth. Experts, as early as April 2008, were already predicting a rescission not just domestically, but globally as well, for 2008/2009.

In this year alone we have seen Bear Stearns go bankrupt in the spring, Freddie May and Fannie Mac starting their downward spiral in the summer and this fall Leman Brothers filled bankruptcy and had the US Treasury not intervened, insurance goliath American International Group would no longer exist. Now General Motors, a major player in the automotive industry over the past 100 years, is fighting an uphill battle just to stay in the business. This past April, GM only held 16% of the domestic automotive market, and the total market share by the Big Three was at 47.5%. The lowest it has ever been for American carmakers.

With all these firms collapsing, or on the verge of collapsing, it has an effect on the US Economy. The loss of business means loss of jobs. People once employed to businesses that were deemed “too big” to fail, have learned a lesson the hard way, the job security of old no longer exists. Firms that are one the verge of going under have had to cut variable costs, jobs, just to keep their heads above water.

The US Congress has deemed it necessary though to intervene on many of banks from going under and enacted the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, more commonly referred to as the bailout. Through this act, the US Treasury is able to spend $700 billion to purchase distressed assets, especially mortgage-backed securities, and make capital injections into banks.

This bailout can be harmful for a free market society. A businesses success is directly related to how well it’s ran. If poor decision were made by the people in charge, then they should bear the consequences. Take a look at a local shopping center. There are businesses opening and closing all the time. This is not because the location is cursed, but because of poor management or failure to secure a niche in the market. When they go out of business, they do not receive an Economic Stabilization package from the government, the burden of failure is put upon the owners, and the same should hold for big business.

New Layout

Welcome to the new Conservative Warrior!!! This layout will works in the three browsers I got (IE, Firefox, Google Chrome) and I am assuming it works in the others. If you have any problems seeing content please let me know. There will be some minor alterations (had to be careful not to use the 6 letter C word) made, but this will be the layout for the future.

As I have said before, new content is coming. My main focus this past week has been editing HTML and taking exams. I hope you can understand.

Again if you have any problems/suggestions for this layout please let me know, contact me via email at Jeffery.Turnbull@gmail.com.

Robin Hood or Karl Marx?

This next post is being guest blogged by a close friend to Matt and I, Justin. He too is an engineer and has something to say about the Obama Tax plan. Enjoy.
(PS, if any of you would like to guest blog let either myself or Matt know what you are interested in writing and we can try to arrange something) So without further adieu, here is Justin

All during the past year we have heard and seen how Obama is going to cut taxes for 95% of the population. Sounds like a great idea, especially since I’d be affected by it. But there are hidden facts that Obama failed to convey to the American public.

First I’ll start with a little breakdown on the current tax structure. As of this year the top 1% paid 39.89% of all of America’s taxes, or roughly the same amount as the bottom 95%. The top 5% consists of 6.8 million people but pays 60% of all of our country’s income taxes.

Obama proposes to give 95% of working Americans a tax credit, free money, a hand out, whatever you want to call it. Add in further tax cuts and credits, that would come out to around 3.2 trillion dollars of debt in 10 years (McCain’s policy would cause 4.2 trillion in 10 years). Further than this though, Obama would add 900 billion in revenue through taxes to bring is total debt to 2.3 trillion. If he’s not taxing the middle class and below (since he stated he is cutting the bottom 95% taxes) to raise this 900 billion, he must be taxing someone….That of course is the top 5%, who would see further taxes raised to nearly 40%.

In fact, what Obama is doing is taking extra money from the richer people who already pay an amount equal to the other 95%, and give it to the poor who either pay no taxes and to 95% of the American working force. The problem is that those at the lower level of the top 5% have to make at least 358k per year, which means after taxes come home with less than half of their income since on top of the 39% marginal tax rate, they will pay another 104k per year in taxes. These are the people who invest in anything and everything, who are our bosses and make the economy run and who most importantly, give us jobs so that the economy and country can succeed.

What is the reward for making that much money if it will just be taken from you? Now you may be thinking, well that’s what taxes do and always have done, so how is Obama making things worse. Technically he’s not for the rest of us, but in the large scheme of things, we don’t matter as we don’t run the companies that make sure we all have jobs.

The top 1% would see their income drop by 9% after taxes and the top 5% by 2%. Yet the middle of all Americans would only see an increase of income by 2.2%. The bottom 25% though would see a 5.4% increase. These are people who work either minimum wage jobs or below, so the money they return back into the system helps very little. It is rather so they can live, not create opportunity for others.

All of the taxpaying Americans would see under a 1% increase in income, this is compared to an increase of nearly 4% with what could have been McCain’s policies. So even though the lower class is making more money, the total population is making a smaller amount than with McCain’s policy. So does giving hand outs and tax cuts for the poor lead to a healthy economy? Or would a more well rounded approach be best? Giving money to those that already have almost none to spend and invest would seem to do almost nothing to the economy. But if the money is spread throughout and trickles down in the form of investments and jobs this can only help everyone gain, as long as the government is willing to take the hit.

Beliefs!

I'm not really sure why, but I have been bottling up a lot of stuff over the past month. So with my first post, I introduce a few talking points that I feel are important to me.

Now, my liberal friend's please do not disregard this note. It is by no means meant to be a "shot" at you. I welcome you to provide input, criticism, and a constructive voice (it is WE, the youth, that will soon run this country).

NOW, this is what I think we need for our country (of course only a small insight to a select few problems...we have more issues to deal with too!).

We need tax breaks for businesses (yes, those evil rich people) because these are the people that know how a capitalist economy functions (the GUTS of America and what led our country to greatness) !! They are the real creators of jobs and the investors in the market. They create growth and prosperity. Taxing them creates pressure on businesses and ultimately leads to decreased profit and layoffs (like it or not...this is obama's plan---taxing them).

Bonus: More jobs

Which leads me to my next point:

As far as corporate outsourcing is concerned, we need to provide incentives for CEO's and big company's to hire American workers...this is government at its best. Limited interaction, but keeping growth in our society. Just eliminating them from your economic policy and taxing them does not benefit anyone! Give them a choice! These companies employ millions of Americans, let them GROW and hire American workers--don't punish them!

Bonus: More jobs

So now I want to talk about what I thought was a MAJOR point in this election (and a key contributor to me voting for McCain):

Foreign independence. We need to really look at our energy policies. Right now Nuclear is one of our cheapest, most efficient supplies of energy. Modern nuclear plants reprocess waste, which will lead to waste becoming a non-factor (almost). Also, with new developments into "fast breeder reactors" we can basically create nuclear power that will last for billions of years. How about that?( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power) <---read up people. One of my main reasons for voting McCain was for his energy policy...he really wanted to invest in nuclear power...maybe he was on to something? I think so.

Bonus: Foreign independence & more jobs!

Furthermore, our country has some of the largest coal and oil shale deposits in the world. Yes, you heard me, in the WORLD. Equal to or greater than energy in what we get from OPEC. Its large, vast...etc. Lets start tapping into this while we continue our ventures into renewable energy and nuclear power.

Bonus: Foreign independence & more jobs

This is all I got for now, and dammit, educate yourselves. There are much better things out there than politicians AND the media lead you to believe. Let our generation be everything that we all hope it to be. We can lead our country, we can turn things around.

Consequences

What most people do not understand is the true effects of Obama's tax plan. While I am for the betterment of mankind, taxing the rich causes a backlash. Look at minimum wage laws, they were implemented to help those with less money to better themselves and what happened? their employers had to lay off many of their workers because they could not afford them. Yes this did better a few households, at the cost of others. The same thing will happen with Obama's tax plan, by taking the rich who are as a vast majority small business owners they will have less economic gain and will need to cut cost somewhere, in this case employment of "unskilled workers".

Although they will never come out and say it, Democrats want to keep the poor poor, this is how they get votes. Look at this past election at how many newly registered voters voted. The promise of betterment without working sounds like a great idea and they want to see that through. Democrats have been saying this for well over 30 years that they are going to end poverty and what has happened? there has been a further divide between the middle and lower class.

I would love to end poverty but in no way should it be the governments responsibility to do so. Hard work pays off, not only in the wallet but in self satisfaction. this is a moral that must be instilled not only on the youth of America, but those that believe in "change" as well. The only true change that can be made is self initiated.

The time is now fellow conservatives, we need to initiate change of our own. Whether it is through joining organizations like the young republicans http://www.youngrepublicans.com/ or by becoming community volunteers.

As Rush Limbaugh said yesterday, "Conservatism did not loose yesterday, it was not even on the ballot". We need to be just as organized in 2012 as our peers were this year for Obama. If we can get a true conservative back on the ballot I really do believe we will have a chance at reclaiming the white house in 2012.

When yesterday ended, so ended the worst day we will face in terms of emotion.

Just keep this in mind, when Obama does take office, the sky will not suddenly turn green, the ground wont turn to ash and the world will not end. For a vast part of our lives not much with "change" (I need to find a thesaurus, that word still makes me sick)

Whether you are religious or not, i strongly encourage each and everyone of you to say a prayer of blessing and strength for not only America, but future President Obama as well. Judging by the events that are already transpiring we will need all the help we can get.
